[SAFETY] Fandom For Robots - Vina Jie-Min Prasad
https://www.uncannymagazine.com/article/fandom-for-robots/ -- free
Fandom for Robots is a delightful short story about the only sentient robot in existence, who lives in a museum, and discovers the joys of internet fandom and fanfic. It's short, it's sweet, it's got a lot of depth, I love Computron.

[SAFETY] Speech Sounds - Octavia E. Butler
http://www.future-lives.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/speech_sounds.pdf - The whole short story can be read here for free
This is my favorite piece of fiction. It is a 12-page short story by my favorite writer Octavia Butler. This Hugo Award winning story is set in a dystopia of our present world, although it was written in the 1980s. In the story we see the aftermath of a pandemic that leaves most of the survivors with deficits in communication with their abilities to speak, understand speech, and to read taken from them. It can be read for free online here - http://www.future-lives.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/speech_sounds.pdf There are no works on AO3 of this piece of fiction so I would love for someone to write a fic for it!
[SAFETY] The Attic - A. M. Burrage
https://www.everand.com/book/372461602/The-Attic — ebook, subscription service, free trial available
https://www.amazon.com/Attic-M-Burrage-ebook/dp/B07B389N73 — ebook, purchase, about 1USD (will differ with taxes)
It's a short ghost story.
In The Attic, Stanley Forbes visits his old pal Telford at the famliy's new home—but all is not right. And when young Derek Wilson sees something horrifying and runs away, Forbes conquers his fear in order to learn the truth.
[SAFETY] The Bone Key - Sarah Monette

[SAFETY] The Horse and His Boy - C.S. Lewis
https://www.amazon.com/Horse-His-Boy-C-Lewis/dp/0064471063 -- $10 ebook from Amazon/Kindle, but very likely available from a local library
Two children - one a fisherman's slave about to be sold off and one a noble about to be trapped in an arranged marriage - find out their horses can talk and are willing to help them run away. They cross paths on the way to their freedom, join forces, and help to stop an invasion in the process. The epilogue contains a few notes about the characters growing up and adjusting to their new lives but not very much detail, so I'd love to see that explored! It is part of the Chronicles of the Narnia but can be read as a stand-alone.
[SAFETY] The Secret of Chimneys - Agatha Christie
https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/65238 - Project Gutenberg, free
Agatha Christie mystery, spies and suspense everywhere! This is a crime novel without a famous detective - instead a young man accidentally becomes a detective - and it makes the book even more exciting. We can also see the life of the nobility in the 1930s. And as we gradually uncover the true identities of the characters it offers so many possibilites for future fics and canon divergence.
[SAFETY] The Sisters Brothers - Patrick deWitt
Provided last time I nommed!
Available as an ebook on Kindle, as an audiobook on Audible or Spotify. Physical copies usually cheaply available (<£4) on ebay. Often available from libraries in multiple formats. This is such a stunning, captivating weird Western tale told by a character I find endearingly blunt - in some ways world-weary, in some ways childishly naive. Features a strained, intense brotherly relationship at its core and a beautiful, tender, quiet could-be-romance between two men they meet. It's introspective, character-focused, not especially plot-heavy but there is a story and it's never dull. The atmosphere is incredible and this book is so readable. So much potential to dig in to these characters and pull more out of them than we see on the page.
[SAFETY] This is How You Lose the Time War - Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladstone
https://www.amazon.com/This-How-You-Lose-Time/dp/1534430997/ - US$12.99 for the ebook, US$11.80 for the audiobook
[SAFETY] Wylding Hall - Elizabeth Hand
https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/wylding-hall-elizabeth-hand/1121102506?ean=9781504007184 - US $9.99 or audiobook free with B&N audiobook subscription
Wylding Hall is a novella with Gothic horror, haunted house, and mysterious/hostile fae elements. It tells the tale of a 70s British folk band who sequestered themselves in the titular old manor to write their newest album, but weirder and creepier things kept occurring, culminating in the disappearance of the lead singer. It's told in the form of a present-day rockumentary that interviews each of the surviving band members & other witnesses to the 1970s events, as they recount their version of what happened. The audiobook particularly leans into this, with different narrators for each character, and is very well done if you're into that! I particularly enjoyed it as a suspenseful horror read for: the creepy house (whose rooms and corridors move), mysterious unexplained events (in the house's recent history & in uncovered archaeological sites), local townspeople who know something but aren't saying, and the ambiguous/multiple interpretations with an open ending (fear of the unknown). It also has a built-in unusual format, and so lends itself well to writing the same. The novella leaves so much open about the mystery and horror elements that there are tons of directions to take with writing worldbuilding, and character-wise the novella has both strong in-book voices as well as opportunities to write OC voices across many historical eras.

[SAFETY] 365 Fresh - Triple H (Music Video)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gPQenyj1nI - free
These characters created in just five minutes are memorable, messy, and angsty! There's so much room to explore their dynamics and what they do together either in their brief time together or by changing the ending to continue on. There's also plenty of questions to ponder and create backstory about how each character has ended up where they were in their lives the night they all met. Every time I hear this song, the music video plays in my head and I think about them for ages after!

[SAFETY] Anna Karenina (2012)

A heavily stylised and colourful film adaption of Tolstoy’s classic directed by Joe Wright (more well known for Pride & Prejudice 2005). The adaption and filmic choices add to the themes of performance and society, choosing to set most of the action amongst theatrical sets and stages. The film is very much under appreciated, and I think misunderstood, and I just adore it (the historical inaccuracy of the clothes is a purposeful choice and I’m just going to warn people of that in advance). Also an incredible cast full of lots of British talents, including a couple of minor characters who (as you can probably tell from my nominations) I still can’t stop thinking about.

$5 to rent on Youtube, or $2 to rent on Amazon (though I'm not sure if you need a Prime account?) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNM8vc8CIbA
A star-studded cast that really gives it their all in a movie with so-bad-it's-good cringeworthy dialogue and a pair of stepsiblings who are horrible horrible people. The ending is laughably awful. I could talk about this movie for hours, it is truly so entertaining to watch. It also has genuinely one of the best movie soundtracks I've ever heard.
[SAFETY] CyberSix

[SAFETY] Dirty Computer - Janelle Monáe (Music Video)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdH2Sy-BlNE -- free
What is it?: Janelle Monaé's lush sci-fi ode to queerness, sexuality, and rebellion. In the near future, people are called "computers" and any who are different are "cleaned" by having their memories removed. Janelle plays Jane 57821, a "dirty computer" who has been captured and is being "cleaned." The songs are the memories the cleaners are trying to erase, of her experiences in the queer subculture and her polyamorous relationship with her girlfriend and boyfriend.
What do you love about it?: The music is amazing, Janelle has a great voice and writes great songs. The message is also great, the story is engaging despite being disjointed and not having any actual dialog. The acting is good and the visuals are lush and engaging.
[SAFETY] Dirty Dancing (1987)

[SAFETY] Divergent (Movie)
https://www.netflix.com/gb/title/70293461- Included in Netflix subscription.
Reasons why you should watch Divergent
1. It's a dystopian world, where you get to choose which Faction you belong to for life. Amity. Erudite. Dauntless. Candor. Abnegation. Faction before blood. And if you don't belong then you become Factionless.
2. It's got a badass female main character (Tris Prior), but she doesn't start out that way. It's about her growing into it.
3. It has action. It has friendships. It has war games.
4. If you like The Hunger Games or The Maze Runner this has similar sort of vibes.
I'm nominating Divergent, the first movie in a series of three, as a safety fandom. But I'm so sure you'll enjoy it that you'll watch Insurgent and Allegiant too. And there are also books too if that's more your vibe. The books are also incredible. They're written by Veronica Roth. Please join me on the Divergent train. Yes, there is a literal train in the movie.
[SAFETY] Don't Worry Darling (2022)
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dont-Worry-Darling-Florence-Pugh/dp/B0B8MWRPC5/ -- Included with an Amazon Prime subscription in the UK. Also available to rent from Amazon Video, Apple TV, Youtube, etc for $4
Alice (Florence Pugh) is a young housewife living an idyllic life in Victory, an isolated 1950s company town. She's utterly smitten with her husband Jack (Harry Styles), though he's secretive about the work that he and the other men disappear to every day. But after a warning from a friend, strange things begin to happen to Alice - and she becomes determined to discover the town's dark secret, convinced that Jack's charismatic boss Frank (Chris Pine) is doing something terrible to them all, even as Frank's interest in her and Jack becomes ever more intense.
This thriller has a lot to say about misogyny, and its central twist provides great opportunities for worldbuilding and deeply iddy dead dove content. As well as the smutty central romance, there's a cat-and-mouse game that could easily warp to enemies-to-lovers, and so much you could explore in the experiences of Alice and the other wives.
[SAFETY] Dorohedoro
https://www.netflix.com/title/80991903 - You can watch it on Netflix
This is a gritty, action-packed anime that has amazing world building and many gray characters you can't help but root for. The main characters are a reptilian-headed man named Kaiman who has amnesia and his friend, a woman named Nikaido. They both are on a mission to try and help Kaiman recover his memories and survive in a strange and violent world. If you have Netflix you can watch it there.
[SAFETY] Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)
https://www.amazon.com/Dungeons-Dragons-Honor-Among-Thieves/dp/B0D68V8W8F -- Included with an Amazon Prime subscription
After two years in prison, charming thief Edgin (Chris Pine) and his best friend Holga (Michelle Rodriguez) mount a prison break to reunite with Edgin's young daughter - and reclaim the magical artifact that will allow Edgin to resurrect his dead wife. When their old friend Forge (Hugh Grant) shuts them out, they plan a heist with a team of misfits: awkward sorcerer Simon (Justice Smith) and sharp-tongued animalshifter Doric (Sophia Lillis)... with a little help from stern paladin Xenk (Regé-Jean Page). But these unlikely heroes soon discover there's more at stake than just Edgin's family - a dark magic threatens the whole world, and they're the only ones who can stop it.
This fantasy adventure film is funny, emotional and surprisingly wholesome. It has so many lovable characters, great fight scenes, and leans hard into the found family trope - and you don't need to know anything about D&D!

Empire Records has a little bit of everything. It has the romance, it has the friendship, it has the weird found family-with-your-coworkers because our indie record’s about to become part of a chain of music stores, oh no, how can we save it (and the not-so-amazing but good hearted attempt to do so), and it involves the ideal job of working with your friends at a record store, and…oh, and there’s a ton of good music.

[SAFETY] Fakes (TV Canada 2022)
https://www.netflix.com/ca/title/81446305 - Netflix (Canada, US) - also CBC Gem (Canada)
Fakes involves two teenage best friends in West Vancouver, British Columbia start a fake ID empire that makes them rich and ruins their lives, simultaneously. It’s told with dual unreliable narrators and was cancelled on a cliffhanger. I love it because a) it’s set in Canada—it doesn’t feel like much is anymore, besides the already pretty well-known comedies and police dramas—b) it involves teenagers and crime, two of my favourite things in fiction, and c) there’s some real unrequited friends-to-lovers tension on…well, on both of the main characters’ parts, at different times in the show. Which is worse. And fun for me.

There are 6 episodes of Hawkeye, which you can find on Disney plus. And they were so good I binge watched them in one weekend. It focuses on Kate Bishop and Clint Barton who both fancy themselves as Superheroes, but they don't have super powers. They have a bow and arrow each. But that doesn't stop them from trying to do what is right and fighting crime.
1. For the two archers Clint Barton and Kate Bishop. They make the absolute best duo. They fight crime together. They banter with one another.
2. For the strong female main character (Kate). She is in over her head but she doesn't quit.
3. For Lucky the pizza dog.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Zlmswo0S0e0&pp=ygUMaGF6YmluIGhvdGVs
This is the pilot. Free on YouTube. The show’s characters are SO MUCH FUN to play with. While the side plots fall flat, the main drive to save all the souls in Hell sets up an interesting background that can be taken in several directions. Hell, you could just take all the characters and run off with them if you want. There’s a reason AUs are so darn popular in this fandom!
The character designs are great, and their personalities, drives, etc really provide solid pieces to play with in fanfics. They’re all loosely in a group so there’s no issue with mix-and-matching the characters in whatever combo you want. There’s a lot of flexibility with pasts too (only the pilot and season 1 have been released so far) so you can provide whatever background you want and it won’t contradict a thing. Probably.

I'm very bad at promoting. I'm the type of autistic that when I love something, I rip it apart to point out all of its flaws. This show is a MESS.
While there are a lot of big name musical voices attached to this project- a lot of the staff that make this project alive are inexperienced and it shows. I mean this in the most endearing way. I see a lot of writing/animation fumbles that are the equivalent of a promising artist who is still struggling with hands so they only draw them in fists or hidden in pockets. The natural mistakes anyone learning how to create is more than familiar with because we've all done it!
The pacing is rushed to literal hell and back. None of the fantastic ideas have a chance to breathe. Thus, for those of us who love fixits in the theme of worldbuilding, this show prime material to take one of the rushed concepts and give it it's own breathing space.
This is a show made by messy queer people for messy queer people. Good well intending characters making bad decisions even if they "know" better because they don't have the energy, have given up, trauma to the point that you can't process why the good is good, etc. The main character, Charlie, is the only one who can represent being a "role model" because of her privilege of not being ripped apart by life (and afterlife). But because of that, she cannot relate or understand why the people she wants to help cannot trust her. Stuff like this also making for great character/relationship studies.
[SAFETY] Hobson's Choice (1954)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7RgwJ9htag
Hobson's Choice is a classic British movie from 1954.
It's about two people, father and daughter, though of course the father is the one people tend to focus on, the daughter gets just as much screen time and it's her actions and choices that drive the main plot of the movie more than her father. He sets things in motion at the beginning, and then spends the rest of the movie having to react to the things his daughter does.
The Hobson family own a boot shop in late-19th-Century Britain, a very well-respected shop, but the father doesn't have much to do with it. His workers in the basement make the boots, and his daughter Maggie (the eldest, plainest, and most practical) runs the shop part of the business, while her father spends most of his days in the pub. Maggie has plans for her life, and is not about to let her father stand in her way. It's funny, it's sweet, it's about how stupid snobbishness and class-sensibility is, it's really good. (Also, it's one of the few cases of my knowledge where a female adult is played by a woman much older than the character--the actress was 45, the character's age is given as 30 several times.)
[SAFETY] Hot Fuzz (2007)
https://www.netflix.com/title/70056431
Hot Fuzz is a perfect movie, and that is not praise I give lightly. If you like murder mysteries, buddy cop movies or fish out of water stories, this movie has something for you. It's a part of the Cornetto Trilogy (three movies written & directed by Edgar Wright and starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost), and utilises the signature style of the writer/director to amazing effect.
Nicholas Angel is a brilliant police officer working for the London Metropolitan police... until he's told by his superiors that he's too good at his job and makes them all look bad, and they're transferring him to a quiet English village named Sandford. Nicholas struggles to acclimate to village life, and when people begin to die in gruesome ways, he becomes convinced there is murder afoot...
Hot Fuzz manages to be both uproariously funny & tell a gripping murder mystery. Hardly a word is wasted and every little detail was put there intentionally. It's honestly a masterpiece of cinema.

Kind but chronically unlucky, Jake (Chris Pine) has never had anything go right for him; cheerful and breezy Ashley (Lindsay Lohan) has lived a charmed life, regularly experiencing startling good luck. When Ashley organises a masquerade ball for her boss, Jake sneaks into the event, and a magical kiss between them swaps their luck. Now Ashley is experiencing disaster after disaster, while Jake sees his star rise as manager of upcoming band McFly (played by themselves). After she melts down in public, Jake takes Ashley under his wing, and a supportive friendship develops between them. Unaware they've already kissed, the two begin to fall for each other - but while another kiss would restore Ashley's good fortune, Jake would regain his old curse, leaving them with a dilemma: what's more important, luck or love?
This film is a fun and undemanding romcom, which provides a lot of room for comedy, post-canon romantic development, and explorations of how luck (and magical luck swapping) actually work.
[SAFETY] Kingsman: The Secret Service
https://www.netflix.com/in/title/80013870?source=35 - included with Netflix subscription or US $5 rental from various sites. Also on DVD for US ~$13 from Amazon/Walmart or available to borrow from US/UK libraries for free.
It's bloody good fun, that's why. Kingsman takes James Bond, adds a dash of My Fair Lady, and mixes in some excellent slash potential along with some really solid friendships, and wraps the whole thing up in a snazzy Savile Row suit. (Ignore the second movie. We all do.)
[SAFETY] Kolja | Kolya (1996)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbJnn7KLPb8&t=1008s (free, with English subtitles)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbJnn7KLPb8 - free (English subtitles are included).Kolya is about a former concert cellist, František Louka, who has lost his position and, to make ends meet, accepts a fee to marry a Russian woman, Nadezhda, so she can become a citizen of Czechoslovakia. Nadezhda almost immediately emigrates to West Germany, where her boyfriend lives -- and she leaves behind Kolya, her 5-year-old son, with his grandmother. His grandmother is taken to the hospital, and the medics bring Kolya to his stepfather - František. At first, neither knows what to expect of the other, and they can't communicate easily as Kolya doesn't speak or understand Czech and František knows very little Russian, but over time, they form a bond. After the Velvet Revolution, the border with West Germany was opened, and Kolya's mother returned for him - after he had been living with František, with no contact with his mother, for over a year. To see the events of the movie - or the events following the movie - from Kolya's perspective would be fascinating! What would it be like to return to a parent one hasn't seen in so long, and who speaks a language one has barely heard in over a year - and to move to a new country, with a new language, and one's mother's new boyfriend - and to leave behind the 'father' who has been caring for him for so long?

Jareth the Goblin King rules a magical, mystical land which has at its heart a Labyrinth and a Goblin Castle at the heart of that. When teenaged Sarah Williams accidentally wishes her baby brother away, she finds her way to the Labyrinth and into Jareth’s heart along her way. So much potential for post-canon play! What happens next? Will Jareth find his way back to Sarah? What does Toby, her brother, remember as he grows older? How does the Labyrinth relate to the people who inhabit it? And so much and many more!!!!

[SAFETY] Metropolis (1927)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-S5v4UwhAE - free on Youtube, probably free for all countries there and on Archive.org. Also available to buy or rent on some paid digital stores, or as a DVD.
Metropolis is one of the most influential movies of the first half of the 20th century. The visuals are absolutely stunning, especially considering they are nearly a century old. The plot is a timeless fairy tale of workers' rights and class warfare. It's one of the first (if not THE first) android/robot movies, and this robot is both terrifying and fuckable. You will recognize so so many scenes, just from everything referencing them for the past century. Also, the current 2.5 hour version is nearly complete after the original cut was lost after the premiere and reassembled as more and more footage has been found in disparate locales.
The most important thing, though, is that Freder Fredersen is nearly the most beautiful man to ever grace the screen. He's a rich kid who discovers there are poor people in terrible conditions and immediately breaks the system to fix their working conditions. He close talks with everyone and seems as though he may kiss any of his scene partners at any time. He's a great action hero, saving the day and giving hope for the future.
This movie is a classic for a thousand good reasons, and if you like any sci-fi or robots, or love stories, or slashy UST, you should definitely check out this movie!
[SAFETY] Mrs. Winterbourne (1996)
https://pluto.tv/on-demand/movies/mrs-winterbourne-1996-1-1?utm_medium=textsearch&utm_source=google -- free. Also available to rent/buy on the standard platforms (Amazon Prime, Google Play, Apple TV) starting around $4
Mrs. Winterbourne is a rom-com with some hidden identity delight, as well as a bit of a murder mystery. Homeless and pregnant, Connie Doyle finds her way onto a train, where she meets free spirit Hugh Winterbourne, the only person who has been kind to her in a while, and his wife, Patricia. After a train accident, the surviving Winterbournes, Hugh's business-like brother, Bill and dramatic mother, Grace, mistake Connie for Patricia, who they've never met! Connie stays because they can provide a better life for her baby, but there's a lot of questions to answer--how will she fit in with the upper-class crowd? What about the baby's father?
It ends up being a really sweet love story as Bill opens up to Connie and she begins to realize that there's more to the Winterbournes than just their money. Plus, I absolutely adore the character of Paco, the Winterbourne's servant who also acts as a sort of father figure. The movie has a lot of heart, and I can't recommend it enough!

[SAFETY] Outlaw King (2018)
https://www.netflix.com/title/80190859 -- Included with a Netflix subscription
1304, the English king has just brutally suppressed a Scottish rebellion, and enigmatic nobleman Robert Bruce (Chris Pine) must join the other Scottish lords in bending the knee. As part of the peace treaty, widower Robert is instructed to marry the king's god-daughter Elizabeth (Florence Pugh). Quickly bonding with Robert's daughter, Elizabeth reveals unexpected political ability, and a gentle romance begins to develop between husband and wife. But Robert cannot stand to see Scotland suffer under foreign rule, and breaks his oaths for the sake of his country, becoming an outlaw to oppose the English king and his son. Though he struggles with personal loss and many setbacks, Robert gains new allies, including the exiled James Douglas (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), as he begins the brutal fight to free Scotland and assert himself as its rightful king.
This film is by no means historically accurate, but it is a visceral and nuanced exploration of the period, with strong performances and real artistic ambition. (The entire first scene is shot in one take, wheeling through the English camp.) Whether you're interested in the artistry, the action, or the romance, there's a lot to enjoy here - though be warned (or enticed) that there's some surprisingly graphic nudity.

It's about people in giant robot suits fighting kaiju monsters and cancelling the apocalypse, but it's also about knowing someone so deeply that you can move and act and think as one.
Pacific Rim is a movie about giant robots fighting giant monsters. It's cheesy and it's great and it's from 2013 but it's set in 2025 so you literally have to love it.

https://www.shudder.com/series/watch/creepshow/e1c7254a5ed4de4b?season=2 - included with a Shudder or AMC+ subscription. Can also be purchased on Amazon for $2.99 USD.
Public Television of the Dead is a standalone episode of the 2019 anthology series, Creepshow. It's a fun blend of horror and humor, based on the idea of a Bob Ross-type character fighting Evil Dead-type zombies on the set of a public access television show. It's also only about 25 minutes long, so a pretty small time commitment overall!
[SAFETY] R.O.D: Read or Die (OVAs)
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pKHOlRanxrw&pp=ygUKci5vLmQuIG92YQ%3D%3D
Here’s the first one, with the second and third also on that YouTube account. I suggest you watch on mute; it’s a MST3K format and the video is subbed. Be mindful of the video quality! There is no other way to find it besides buying a physical copy online.
R.O.D. is simply fun! Readman is my favorite; just, bibliophile barely clinging on to her apartment because she’s so obsessed with books. I love the variety of people and creative powers (papermancy, phasing through objects, a freakin’ suicide symphony, CLONES…) in the canon. I’d love to see the ending turn out happier. Nancy definitely got the short end of the stick.
You should watch this if you want to see badass women being badass together. A slight bit of damsel in distress which is unfortunate, but overall it’s a great action OVA that really makes me feel excited when I watch it from beginning to end.

A very fun movie about making movies—an homage to stunt crews that doesn’t take itself too seriously but delivers on everything it does promise—with Emily Blunt playing a relatable yet kickass cutie and Ryan Gosling playing the guy who’s so whipped for her he’s more torn up about her possibly not liking him back than about the prospect of being shot/exploded/manipulated/jumped/etc. at any given moment. There’s a dog that understands French and some cameos for fans of the original Fall Guy show, too!

Goodnight and Billy are what make this film worth watching, to me - their subtle, tragic devotion stands out as something really special in an otherwise pretty standard Western flick. Goodnight is a wretched yet charming old Cajun, wracked with war trauma; Billy is his ridiculously beautiful companion of few words who is also a deadly knife wielding killer; they are completely dedicated to each other. Goodnight cannot function without Billy's support, and in Goodnight's own words: ""where I go, Billy goes."" As their story isn't the focus of the film, there is heaps of room to explore.

[SAFETY] The Mummy (1999)
Most libraries in the US and probably other countries have it available. It's also streaming on Hulu for free if you have a Hulu subscription.
The movie that Roger Ebert said was terrible but he enjoyed every minute of watching it! An action adventure classic of the Millenials era! Hot men and hotter women protecting the world from magical devastation via the power of libraries and these guns they found! World building that leaves so many spaces (we won't say plot holes) in which to build! There are sequels (The Mummy Returns is a fun romp), but the first one stands alone beautifully and tells you all you need to know about these characters.

Mia (Anne Hathaway) is just an awkward, clumsy teen trying to get through high school without being noticed - until her estranged grandmother Clarisse (Julie Andrews) reveals that Mia is heir to the throne of a tiny European country, Genovia. As she struggles with her newfound fame, the usual teenage trials, and her grandmother's princess lessons, Mia must decide who she is, what's really capable of, and whether to accept or reject her royal title.
In the second film, Clarisse is preparing to retire so Mia can take the throne - but an ambitious viscount forces the revival of an old law: an unmarried woman cannot rule Genovia. Mia now has 30 days to find a husband, or the crown will go to the viscount's nephew Nicholas (Chris Pine). But as Mia struggles with the idea of an arranged marriage, she grows ever closer to her charming rival Nicholas - and maybe melts his heart in the process.
The first movie is a fun teen film, the second a delightful romcom, and they're both pure wish fulfilment. Full of lovable characters, swoonworthy romance (including a lovely background ship between Clarisse and her bodyguard), and so much potential for worldbuilding about Genovia, they're easy watches with a lot to enjoy.

This is a really underappreciated film, and a solid adaptation of the novel. Heavily atmospheric, character-driven; it plays with Western tropes in a way that feels genuinely fresh and new and captivating. The relationship between the titular brothers is intense and fraught, and there is a lovely, quiet, tender relationship between two other male characters which can easily be read as romantic. There's so much room to explore these characters - in unseen moments, post-canon, or different directions their lives could have taken.

Charming playboy FDR (Chris Pine) and divorced romantic Tuck (Tom Hardy) are best friends - and spies who work together at the CIA. After a mission goes wrong, they're benched by their boss, and Tuck decides to try online dating. He quickly falls for sweet but awkward Lauren (Reese Witherspoon) - as does FDR, after a chance meeting with her, unaware of her connection to Tuck. But when the guys discover they're chasing the same woman, their intense friendship is threatened by their competitive urges - just as an old enemy resurfaces, putting all three of them in danger.
This film is part buddy comedy, part romcom, part action film. It's a rollicking ride with a lot of slashy potential between the two male leads. (They actually filmed multiple endings with different ship outcomes - including one where FDR and Tuck choose each other over Lauren!)

There is SO MUCH WORLDBUILDING in this one-minute video! The fact of there being a liminal dimension you can get to by wandering in the supply closet. The implication that this dimension has cell service (and that this service involves data roaming charges). The fact that the Eldritch Shadow Monster has preferred pronouns and the associated implication that they had a conversation about this. The fact that working in Operations apparently means one of the things you do is deal with fissures in reality. All of this set against the beautiful mundanity of a phone call that's essentially ""I'm going to be late for a meeting, start without me.""

It's a really interesting sympathetic portrayal of Vlad as a just man driven to increasingly harsh actions as he attempts to resist betrayal from within his ranks as well as the demands and greater military strength of both Hungary and the Ottoman Empire. There are some very bad wigs, some very good hats, and some great horse and battle scenes.
One of my favorite bits:
- Mehmed is close. The country should confront him like an invincible sword. Swords are hardened through fire, not words, your holiness.
- But not in hell's fire.
- I haven't another handy.

Quirky, enthusiastic Asha (Ariana DeBose) is a 17-year-old girl living in the magical kingdom of Rosas, where all adults surrender their greatest wish to the king, hoping he'll choose them as one of the lucky ones who are granted their heart's desire. Eager to help her community, Asha tries out for the position of king's apprentice, with the two of them gently bonding. But then Asha discovers that King Magnifico (Chris Pine) has no intention of ever granting most of the wishes he's collected, including her grandfather's wish. In a moment of desperation, Asha makes a wish upon a star - only for that Star to fall to earth, bringing its own magic, and setting Asha on a collision course with powerful sorcerer Magnifico.
It may not reach the heights of the Disney classics, but this animated film has some fun songs, characters with great potential, and a lot to explore in fanworks. As well as building on the canon timeline, there are some intriguing options for canon divergence, delving into other possibilities the movie offers up.

Anime (on Amazon Prime; 11 episodes): https://www.amazon.com/Wotakoi-Love-Hard-Otaku/dp/B07C3WL3VPOtaku romcom where the couples are [mainly] established by the end of episode 1! If you've ever felt the divide between your professional self and your nerdy self, or have thought about that and decided ""nope I'm me on or off the clock"", then you will feel Seen. Also, the two main couples are also very shippable with each other (and the girlfriends have Thoughts over which of their boyfriends would be the seme). It's fun, it's silly, and it's Relatable. Give it a read or a watch—it's great in both anime and manga form!

A story about a guy whose tragedy includes having a book spoiled for him as a child. He meets a cat and somehow finds that people don't suck *that* badly. Very cute and fun and absolutely adorable to watch cat and human learn about each other, and it's very silly but also serious at times too.

Super sweet and healing anime about a guy healing from PTSD from an abusive workplace and his adorably goofy boss who slowly helps him recover. They're very very shippable! There's also a canon bi side character who calls his 2d blorbo his wife in a scene that is incredibly relatable to me. Everyone is so kind to each other in a way that doesn't feel too saccharine. There's a tsundere cat. It's just really lovely and fun to watch and I'd love to read about the main characters' developing relationship!

This is quite probably the funniest podcast miniseries I've ever listened to. The first episode is free on the main feed, and that one and the other two (three in total) are available on lowest level patreon tier. The players spend the whole time giving incredible twists that seem to come out of nowhere, and yet every piece ties in so well to their characters and the story they are telling.
Set in Regency England, the story follows the Mothman sisters' attempts at finding husbands in the season. Their plans are opposed by the Rogan sisters, and the limitations of a three act story means they get to go completely wild on the comedy.
[SPOILERS—Jane and Elizabeth's relationship]
All within the first episode, the Mothman sisters realise that the Rogan sisters are essentially better than them in every way, and as such decide that the only thing left to do is to kill them. While her sisters are doing their best to woo the eligible men, Elizabeth goes to Jane Rogan's house and cooks her "poisoned ravioli".
This sparks the beginning of a friendship between Jane and Elizabeth, kept on the down low due to the families rivalries, and Elizabeth's repeated attempts to kill Jane. However, at the end of Episode 2, Jane reveals she has a time machine, and invites Elizabeth—as her dearest friend—to come to Victorian London to become a badass team of lesbian serial killers.
Sometime in the unexplored part between the end of episode 2 and the beginning of episode 3, Jane and Elizabeth get married. This is then kept a secret until mid way through episode 3, where Elizabeth decides to introduce her wife to her sisters.
Once I started listening to it, I couldn't stop, it's such a hilarious story.

Generation Crossing is an audio drama by Dead Signals. It is a science-fiction story that fuses music and monologues to create the story of a ship's AI as it undertakes the 800 year journey to a "new" earth to inhabit with its many crew. Generation Crossing is driven both by the characters that exist over the course of the journey, as well as the depth and growth of the ship's AI, IO. The music is vibrant and beautiful, the monologues are heartfelt or funny or painful, and the narrative itself is all-encompassing but passes, somehow, naturally over the course of listening.
If you have 90 minutes and a Spotify account, it's well worth the listen! It's great for anyone who is more interested in worldbuilding or potentially focusing on single characters as the story tends to focus in on one character and one point in time at a time, allowing for fic or comics that could flesh out the entire world.

Ghost Quartet says a lot. Like, a LOT. And also very little that makes concrete sense, which is why I thought it might be a good safety. It's about 1.5 hours long and it's a genuinely beautiful piece of art that has haunted me for about nine years now. It's a cyclical musical - called a song cycle - about reincarnation, love, mythology, the stars, God, sisterhood, and just about everything. The four main characters exist in several iterations/incarnations that all exist at once in a circle. It's intentionally weird and abstract and all over the place. It has the most beautiful lyrics I have ever heard. From the creator: "Ghost Quartet is a “live performance of a concept album”…basically what we wanted to do was to take the narrative form of the rock concept album, with all of its vaguery and weirdness, symbolism and surrealism, adrenaline and angst, and theatricalize it."
It's REALLY HARD to explain GQ, and that is what I love about it! It's why I think it might be a good safety fandom, but that could be the exact argument someone /else/ has as to why it might NOT be a good safety fandom. So, I get it if ya decide not. I'll include some links that explain more about GQ:

Everyone seems to have a different interpretation of the story. I'd love to hear more of them, more takes on this beautiful musical, more ideas surrounding its universe, so and so forth! Genuinely, though, GQ is probably the art piece that has had the most impact on my creativity and art to date. The lyrics are beautiful, the sound is ethereal, and Gelsey and Brittain can SING!

Jožin z Bažin is similar to a medieval knight's tale – the narrator is going on a journey to a place where he knows he might encounter a dangerous monster and he is offered a prize for stopping the monster – but instead of a dragon, this narrator faces a swamp monster named Jožin, instead of a horse and a sword, he uses a crop duster, and instead of half of the kingdom and a princess's willing hand in marriage, he is offered the chairman's daughter's hand in marriage (her thoughts on the matter remain unstated); instead of half of the kingdom, he is offered half of the local agricultural cooperative – but though he catches Jožin, the narrator decides to sell him to the zoo instead of accepting the rewards he was offered.

[SAFETY] The Bifrost Incident - The Mechanisms (Album)
https://open.spotify.com/intl-fr/album/2i8KURNn2NsHnYkhGeOwOh - Free (with a free Spotify account). Also available on Apple Music, Youtube, etc...
The Bifrost Incident is a folk rock album by The Mechanisms, heavily inspired by Norse mythology. It follows the efforts of an inspector who is tasked with unravelling the mysteries of the Bifrost: a prototype train built to travel through a wormhole, which disappeared on its maiden voyage 80 years ago, and has now unexpectedly reappeared, with no one left alive. The story involves Cthulhu-inspired eldritch horrors, a rebellion headed by a former socialite, her wife: a genius engineer turned rebel turned mad by her discoveries, a political leader meeting the consequences of her hubris, and a frankly astounding amount of worldbuilding for 52 minutes of music. I cannot recommend it enough for anyone who enjoys narrative albums, doomed-by-the-narrative lesbians, worldbuilding that straddles the line between science and fantasy, or simply some excellent rock music <3

No, this is not the "no internet google game". This is older than that. Back when Flash was the tool for multimedia indies. A Newgrounds classic.
A simple, cute and morbid game where you, a vague raptor-shaped dinosaur run away from the shock wave created by the Chicxulub asteroid. Technically there is no story. Just the aesthetic vibe excuses for gameplay. Depending on the difficulty setting, there can be different "endings" in ways of how your dinosaur character finds a way to be safe. There are a few background details that give the setting a scifi feel despite it's main theme which make it's world feel oddly bigger than it is!
[SAFETY] Hate Plus (Video Game)

This is a standalone prequel to Analogue: A Hate Story by the same creator. As the player, you're helping Mute, the ship security AI, uncover what went wrong previously on her ship and why it changed to become what it was in Analogue: A Hate Story.
This is a short game that really digs into mutiny and revolution, and it documents the failed attempt by Mute to keep control of her ship (we know it fails because it's a prequel)! Even though the ending is known, it's also just really well done in terms of cultural change and a great study of a coup.
[SAFETY] Malcatras' Maiden (Visual Novel)
https://nadianova.itch.io/malcatras-maiden -- free, also available on Steam
Malcatras' Maiden (MalMaid for short) is an emotionally intense incest-flavored lesbian porn kinetic novel that you can easily read in one sitting! It features a trans doggirl protagonist (Liliana) with a deeply weird and "special" relationship with her wealthy adoptive mom (Francesca), who she now works as a maid/bodyguard for. If you prefer your incest to be more sister flavored, fear not! There is also delicious/tragic adoptive sistercest that I love and am requesting multiple iterations on, including an OT3 (Imogen/Liliana/Millarca) and a platonic option. If you aren't the biggest fan of writing incest but like writing shipping, I think it's also plausible to read this set of characters as close childhood friends and I would be happy to receive a gift with that reading. I'm also requesting a few characters solo, to explore backstory, canon divergence, and post-canon. This game is high on masochism and submission (this truly is a game for the masochists), power dynamics, abuse (including noncon/dubcon playing as the victim), and violence/written gore (including MCD). There are some speculative (magic) elements. There is one scene that ends in PIV, and the art in this game features full frontal nudity. This is the game for you if you like dark, deeply messed up lesbians!

[SAFETY] The Red Strings Club (Video Game)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTlnrT7omr0
Deeply philosophical dialogue-driven RPG about ethics and free will in a cyberpunk corporate dystopia. The centerfold of the story is the tragic canonical M/M romance. Emotionally heavy! Can easily be experienced in LP format without missing out too much.
https://www.lezhinus.com/en/comic/stamina - 720 Lezhin coins (~$18 USD). Alternatively, you can find fan-made translations of the work from the Korean original at no cost.
A Hunter's Stamina is webtoon that has so much worldbuilding potential that never ended up being explored, because the artist passed away unexpectedly (and the ending feels rather abrupt, as a result). The main story consists of 15 chapters plus 10 chapters of side-stories, which I suspect were originally meant to be the first part of the second season.
CW - this is a BL webtoon that contains explicit smut (including on-page non-con and dub-con in both directions of the main dynamic), and worldbuilding-centric violence. Also, neither character is all that sane and obsessive tropes are present, which fits the world/story well.
If you are familiar with the webnovel, 'The S-Classes That I've Raised' by Geunseo, this webtoon falls into a very similar genre, where mainstream society suddenly ends up with dungeon breaks and needs hunters to suppress these dungeons. Right after the first break, laws are passed such that if a family has one awakened hunter that serves for 10 years, their siblings are exempt from compulsory military service. It leads to wealthy families adopting orphans who are likely to awaken as hunters, just to protect their biological children. The laws change to allow families to only adopt up to 3 kids, to prevent the systematic using/dumping of orphan kids that don't awaken, but it only limits the magnitude of the problem and creates an orphan/hunter underclass with only a ~20% survival rate.
Mo Yeon-woo is one such adopted child who has been adopted, mistreated, and discarded by several past adoptive families, and Mo Jeong-woo is the biological child of the next wealthy family that adopts Mo Yeon-woo just to keep him out of the military. In fact, it becomes quite clear later on that even Mo Jeong-woo's parents, while notably nicer, are still not great parents. They are generally absent and when at first, it looks like Mo Yeon-woo won't awaken as a hunter, they are visibly upset and fight about the other person picking wrong (cementing that they only saw Mo Yeon-woo as a tool that they were only marginally nicer to). Mo Jeong-woo doesn't see Mo Yeon-woo as an older brother at first, and is well aware of what's going on, but with his parents being absent all the time, they do get closer.
Their relationship is rather complicated, but it's clear that they are the other's only real priority- the obsession is real in both directions (if not outright yandere on Mo Jeong-woo's part). If you are familiar with The S-Classes That I Raised, you'll likely see more than a few similarities to the dynamic between Han Yoojin and Han Yoohyun. The first part of the story happens before Mo Yeon-woo joins the military as a hunter and enters a time dungeon. The second part happens after he is rescued from the time dungeon by Mo Jeong-woo (who becomes a hunter despite his parents, and awakens in shock after his hyung disappears) and learns that 10 years have passed in the outside world and so much has changed. To Mo Jeong-woo, his parents and the world don't matter- just Mo Yeon-woo, and he is why he rises the ranks as a hunter in the military, founds the most powerful guild, and changes society.
The webtoon centers the focus on these two characters and their very questionable dynamic- especially through a lot of smut, and while I absolutely love the darker ambiguity of their relationship dynamic, I also find myself very curious about the worldbuilding and exploring that further in the backdrop against these two characters. Knowing the author died before being able to finish the story only makes me wonder just what sort of worldbuilding they would've expanded into and where the narrative and characters might have gone in their mind- especially since the vast potential is realized in similar novels like S-Classes.
The world is open for you to explore, whether it's in the first part when the dungeon breaks first happen, or in the second half, with the world Mo Yeon-woo returns to. Honestly, I'd love anything- as long as it features the main pair and goes into some worldbuilding, I'll love it!

[SAFETY] Loki: Agent of Asgard
The whole thing is available for $20 from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/LOKI-AGENT-ASGARD-COMPLETE-COLLECTION); it's usually on Comixology or Marvel's comic app, though variable depends on whims of day and geographic location. A lot of libraries also have it because it was (and is) a very beloved run.
A story about storytelling; a story about being a weapon forged by a previous version of you, a you that you no longer are; a story about who is the hero and who is the villain and why is the line sometimes so hard to find. A story about destiny, and about hope; about family, and friends; about truth, and lies, and what ties the two together. This comic series will forever be exceedingly dear to me, and I will forever love this version of Loki--trickster, but not a monster, yet destined by all (including himself) to become a monster. But what is destiny to a storyteller? What is story but a lie we tell to help us find the truth?

[SAFETY] ここは今から倫理です。| From Now On We Begin Ethics (Manga): Chapters 1-18
https://mangadex.org/title/50cb0480-1baf-4c63-b8c4-0145d1f1cd5e/we-shall-now-begin-ethics -- free
It's a great manga about an ethics teacher coming across all kinds of struggles his various students face. The first 18 chapters follow one class and are standalone from the others (as the manga moves onto a different class afterwards) and is my favourite arc for the characters. Because this is ethics class, there are no correct answers. There are only questions and attempts at answers that may or may not be right. I just love how this manga really makes you think and I love how varied everyone's lives and struggles are and how they're all taken seriously. Everyone's going through something. And we could benefit from some ethics!

Der schweizerische Robinson | Swiss Family Robinson - Johann David Wyss
https://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/3836/pg3836-images.html - free (please only use this version! SFR has had so many translations over the years, some aren't even the same story.)
Look, ignore the absolutely unrealistic plant and animal diversity and the frequent preaching. SFR is, at heart, a sweet little tale of a family surviving against great odds, with nothing but their own ingenuity and a fair helping of luck and grace. There are no villains, just nature to overcome. And it has - in an 1800s book! - two really cool female characters, Mama Robinson, who is vital to the family's success, and Jenny, who survives by herself for three years, and has a lovely (mostly off-page) romance with the oldest Robinson boy.
Dominion of the Fallen - Aliette de Bodard
Do you like gay arranged marriages? People with a skewed moral compass but one they always follow? People who will bleed to defend what's theirs, while letting the world burn around them? Then Asmodeus might be the character for you! Set in a queernorm world where Fallen angels have conquered most of humanity before falling into squabbling amongst themselves that leaves Paris a burned ruin, this series is a great time for people who like morally ambiguous characters but without dourness taking over.

[NOTE FOR THE MODS: The book is listed as being just below 90k at https://howlongtoread.com/books/14849941/Hell-Followed-with-Us, it wasn’t listed as an option on the site that was linked on the exchange DW] Hell Followed With Us is a fantastic thriller chock full of religious trauma, canonically queer characters, a canon autistic character, betrayal, and a dash of horror and gore. This is one of the very few books I will tolerate gore in because it is just that good. The slow but certain spiral of Benji’s secret is unbelievably fantastic, and I was gripping the book so tight that I worried about breaking it when I was on the edge of my seat. It’s also the book that got me back into YA and changed my entire perspective on the genre. Yeah. It’s that good.

Numb3rs
Pluto TV (link available to US residents) - free; DVD box set - around US $140 on Amazon; available to borrow from libraries in the US
Numb3rs is one of my favorite shows of all time. Sure, it's technically a procedural, but the heart of the show is the family dynamic, not just between Don and Charlie Eppes, but between them and their dad Alan, as well as the found family the team becomes. And while the show is about using math to solve crimes, it allows the agents to be smart ane competent, too. For a show that aired between 2005-2010, It's pretty damn diverse - by the last season, there's one white Christian guy on the main cast and he is VERY strongly queer-coded. (Seriously, I want to know what notes the actor got.) The women are for the most part wonderful, and there's great potential for both het and slash ships. But more than anything, though, the show is KIND - there's not an asshole in the main cast. (Plus, Lou Diamond Phillips guest stars, and how can you say no to LDP?)

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon is NOT a safety fandom even if one is versed in emulation. PMD is a spinoff from the main Pokémon franchise. If you remove the version differences, there are 5 games. The mechanics feature classic dungeon crawling: RNG maps, item management and grinding.
However, while the main source material isn't a safe, the fandom at large takes the games as if it were a ttrpg instruction booklet and then creates whatever they want out of it. Its gotten to the extreme that many fans are oblivious to what is canon vs fanon.
The main premise is a simple: A human is transformed into a Pokémon and sent to another reality (or future/past of the main series) to save the world. In this reality no humans exist, whether they were a thing at all or went extinct, who knows. Somehow despite their amnesia, they are confident they were human. Manage to successfully persuade their partner they were once human and then go on the journey of saving the world.
TL;DR: fantasy furry bff isekai.

A series of high fantasy adventure-romances with some mild horror elements! The characters are quirky and relatable, and the worldbuilding absolutely fascinates me. It includes paladins who knit in their spare time, nuns who sometimes turn into bears, a race of badger-like creatures with a very interesting social structure, a mortician who can experience his subjects' dying moments, and a very pragmatic religious order focused on creative problem-solving for social justice issues. Each book focuses on a different main pair of characters, and there are mild spoilers for earlier books in later ones, but each one can be read as a standalone.

This is a great manga about an ethics teacher that's incredibly varied in the kinds of topics it covers. It really makes you think and reflect on things through the students' personal struggles that it doesn't claim to solve, but doesn't leave hanging either. I love how it discusses things from an open mindset and doesn't have all the answers, but just people who are trying their best. If you want to learn about things, broaden your worldview, or think from new perspectives, I'd highly encourage you to read this!

This is my favorite piece of fiction. It is a 12-page short story by my favorite writer Octavia Butler. This Hugo Award winning story is set in a dystopia of our present world, although it was written in the 1980s.

[SAFETY] Fakes (TV Canada 2022)

[SAFETY] Just My Luck (2006)
https://www.disneyplus.com/en-gb/movies/just-my-luck/5JVw2w1kURQC -- Included with a Disney+ subscription
What would it be like to return to a parent one hasn't seen in so long, and who speaks a language one has barely heard in over a year - and to move to a new country, with a new language, and one's mother's new boyfriend - and to leave behind the 'father' who has been caring for him for so long?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-S5v4UwhAE - free on Youtube, probably free for all countries there and on Archive.org.

Pacific Rim is a movie about giant robots fighting giant monsters. It's cheesy and it's great and it's from 2013 but it's set in 2025 so you literally have to love it.

[SAFETY] Vlad Țepeș (1979)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6IQBNdHg8M - free
This is a Romanian historical movie (with English subtitles) about Vlad the Impaler's during his second reign as voivode of Wallachia from 1456-1462.

[SAFETY] Ghost Quartet - Dave Malloy

Payed has less glitches (but not by much). Majority of character customizations are unlocked immediately in payed. Otherwise, its the same game!
[SAFETY] Hate Plus (Video Game)
http://hateplus.com/ - $10USD, also on Steam

Safety: Comics and Manga
[SAFETY] A Hunter's Stamina (Webtoon)https://www.lezhinus.com/en/comic/stamina - 720 Lezhin coins (~$18 USD).

(Also, there's pawky. Lots of pawky.)
What is story but a lie we tell to help us find the truth?

https://mangadex.org/title/50cb0480-1baf-4c63-b8c4-0145d1f1cd5e/we-shall-now-begin-ethics -- free

Really good-hearted queer show with a full range of LGBTQA+ characters. It's not a safety fandom, but it is around 12 hours of tv, so faster than you'd think. (Or, if you don't have Netflix, the comic is freely available online.)
Hell Followed With Us - Andrew Joseph White
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09FX3PP7P?tag=hltr-20 purchasable for $11USD on Kindle on Amazon, also available on Audible with subscription for $1. I’d also check local libraries to see if they have it before you commit.

A band of criminals helps people by stealing from, grifting, and otherwise defeating those who've abused their power. I love the characters and how well they all complement and play off each other, seeing complex and creative schemes unfold, and the underlying themes of justice and found family.

Playthrough of Hard Mode

Playthrough of War of Tyrants

And yes, storyline-wise the harder difficulties follow the story so normal mode story leads into the hard mode story leads into the extreme mode leads into nightmare mode, it's all one long story. War of the Tyrants also slots in there somewhere, it takes place a number of decades prior.
Ok cool I think that's it.

Ocean's Echo - Everina Maxwell

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAyoDfdfwcY&list=PLtBEM9MXv-whoh19YvDFDJ0UClZDO6esC -- free (Playlist for PMD: Explorers of Sky cutscenes. Out of the entire franchise, this game is the most popular one to be used and referenced)

Sherlock Holmes (1984 TV)
If you like Sherlock Holmes and want to see someone embody him beautifully, with body language that is unique and persuasive; if you like the relationship between Holmes and Watson; if you like middle aged men solving mysteries and being kind but not always nice; if you like mirrors and cool directorial choices (and sometimes strange ones that make you go 'what' but generally in a good way); this is a very fun adaptation.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine is full of interesting characters, complex situations, and other forms of literary catnip for fan-fic authors. The Cardassians definitely fit that category, giving you plenty of both canon and room-to-play at the same time, with what is known and unknown about them.

Star Trek: Enterprise
I love this relationship! Blue Skin and Pink Skin having to learn how to live and love together.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (TV)
I love the crusty competence of Hemmer and the tender yet tough teaching style he has with Uhura.
The group dynamics of Chapel, Ortegas, Spock, and T’Pring are so much fun to think about. The mix of personalities, cultural and individual differences – a writer’s delight!
Star Trek: The Next Generation
Spot is a cat and, like cats everywhere, gets into everything and meets everybody. Leads to an interesting set of ‘what if’s?

The OC (TV)

The Saint of Steel - T. Kingfisher
https://redwombatstudio.com/fantasy-romance/ -- author's website has links to several places to buy here, ebooks look to be $6-7 each
A series of high fantasy adventure-romances with some mild horror elements!

Майор Гром | Major Grom (Trofim Movies)
https://www.netflix.com/title/81438809 - first film, available with Netflix subscription. Dubbed and subbed in English (along with a number of languages).
I cannot find the other two in English, and it's hard to get much of characterization on one of the characters without the third, so there's that.
Personally, I won't mind a guess given the circumstances, but here is the info)
ここは今から倫理です。| Koko wa Ima Kara Rinri Desu | From Now On We Begin Ethics (Manga)
https://mangadex.org/title/50cb0480-1baf-4c63-b8c4-0145d1f1cd5e/we-shall-now-begin-ethics -- free

悪役令嬢の中の人 | Akuyaku Reijou no Naka no Hito | The One Within the Villainess (Manga)
A villainess manga. After dying, Emi wakes up as a child and the villainess Remilia Rosa Graupner! Remilia is one of her favorite characters so she tries her best to give Remilia a happy ending. However, her effort is for naught - there is a second transmigrator, the heroine, Pina!
From the description, it is your generic villainess manga where the roles are switched. But that's only the first two chapters! After Emi falls into despair during the condemnation event, the original villainess Remilia re-gains control of her body! And she is out for revenge against those who wronged her precious Emi, who she has been watching over this whole time. How is she getting revenge? By saving the world and improving her territory!
The art of the women are really pretty! Remilia gets to make villainous faces as she says the most innocent things!
(The devotion Remilia has for Emi will make you feel bad for the male lead jhskd)
